Quad Rings , also known as X-Rings, Nu-Lips or occasionally ‘4 – (dash)’ and can be used in
a wide variety of static and dynamic sealing applications.
The four-lobed design provides twice the sealing surface in comparison to a standard O-Ring.
The double-seal action requires less compression to maintain an effective seal. This reduced
compression results in less friction, longer seal life and lower risk of twisting.
Quad Rings have an advantage over standard O-rings as the parting lines are between the lobes,
away from the sealing surface. This eliminates the problems of leakage that often results from a
parting line’s irregular surface as found on an O-Ring. In these cases, X rings provide a better,
more uniform seal.
Quad Rings are designed to outperform a standard O-Ring in rotary seal applications. The four-
lobed configuration creates a more stable seal avoiding spiral twisting. This allows for a narrower
groove width than a standard O-Ring groove. However, it can also be used in a standard O-Ring
groove.
Quad Rings have the same dimensions as the AS568A O-Ring sizes, also referred to as standard
size O-Rings and are available in a variety of materials.
